Hi Friends,
We just returned from our mission trip, where we were able to perform 113 vision-restoring cataract surgeries on people who were completely blind — thanks to you!
Our new microscope allows me to project the surgery on a video monitor, which is excellent for teaching. It also includes a wireless foot pedal that lets me control the microscope just as I would in the U.S. Together, these improvements allow for safer, more precise surgery on even the darkest, most advanced cataracts.
I thought you might enjoy these stories and pictures:
Carlos, age 85, completely captured our hearts. Blind for 15 years, he came from a village about three hours away near Acapulco. Before losing his sight, he was the town’s reporter and photographer. The day after his surgery, he arrived at the clinic with the same camera he had used 15 years earlier — joyfully taking hundreds of photos of everyone around him. He was so excited and thankful, especially to God.
We also performed surgery for our first 100-year-old patient! She had been completely blind and is now overjoyed to see her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren again.
Thank you to everyone who supports us — financially and through your prayers. We can’t do this without you, and we know that.
Thank you for sharing in the joy of this mission.
Praying God’s blessing on all of you,
Dr. Jim
