We successfully completed 175 vision-restoring cataract surgeries for the blinded poor at our mission site in Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
More than 20 surgeries per day were performed by our dedicated volunteers! These were not “normal” cataracts, but rather like pieces of black coal in the eye — intense, advanced cases that tested both skill and endurance.
God gives, we receive, we give back — and God is glorified. That’s the loop of grace.
And the loop continues: 27-year-old Juan Diego, a diabetic whose cataracts grew so severe he had to stop school and work, now sees clearly again. He is happy and hopeful to return to school. (Image #1 below)
As Molly shared: (Image #2 below)
“This is a really special picture because all of these people were from the same town, four hours away. They had asked for more spots after we helped about ten people from their community last year. This time, they came in several vans with their town mayor. They were so appreciative and commented how grateful they were to be treated with such dignity. They asked for a special picture at the end — humbling beyond words in their gratitude.”
This mission was also a family milestone: surgeon (and our nephew) Dr. David Massop was assisted by his surgeon father (and our brother-in-law) Dr. Doug Massop — a first in more than 35 missions. (Image #3 below)
As Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta said:
“God gave us everything we need in this world, but He left it up to us to share it.”
Thank you for sharing your prayers and your resources. Thank you for sharing in the joy of this mission.
It could not happen without you.The loop of grace continues.
Peace,
Dr. Jim
